C&IH has arranged a symposium on talc risk assessment for the upcoming 2025 Annual Meeting of the Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) being held at the Westin Downtown Washington, D.C., from December 7 through 10, 2025. The symposium is titled T4-H: Talc Around Us – Using Risk Assessment to Navigate Hazards. Sessions for the symposium will explore the use of risk assessment approaches to address ongoing questions about talc exposure and health outcomes. Speakers will highlight mineralogical, toxicological, and epidemiologic evidence to clarify how scientific methodology can guide public health decisions regarding talc use in consumer and occupational settings. Sessions include:

What Mineralogical Science Tells About Talc
Dr. Ann Wylie
Professor Emerita, University of Maryland
Senior Scientific Advisor, C&IH

Dr. Wylie will discuss how mineralogical characterization can distinguish between talc varieties and guide scientific understanding of their potential health effects.

How Bias Impacts the Interpretation of Talc and Cancer Epidemiology Study Results
Dr. Julie Goodman
Principal, Gradient

Dr. Goodman will examine how recall and other biases may influence cancer epidemiology findings related to talc exposure.

Talc in Consumer Products: Quantitative Risk Assessment and Regulatory Environment
Dr. Andrey Korchevskiy
Director of Research and Development, C&IH

Dr. Andrey Korchevskiy will present a case study to illustrate how exposure modeling and risk assessment methods can be applied to evaluate consumer talc products and inform science-based regulatory decisions.

Case Study on Quantitative Risk Assessment for Mineral Particle Exposure
Arseniy Korchevskiy
Biostatistician, C&IH

Mr. Korchevskiy will present a hypothetical lifetime talc exposure scenario to demonstrate quantitative risk assessment methods for evaluating potential cancer risks from mineral particle inhalation.

The symposium is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9th from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in Meeting Room 16. A complete description of the symposium and additional conference details are available on the SRA 2025 Annual Meeting website.
