The webinar will examine current scientific understanding of asbestos, naturally occurring asbestos, and other elongate mineral particles, with a focus on how fiber characteristics may influence exposure and health risk. Topics will include the scientific definition of asbestos, classification of elongate mineral particles as asbestiform and non-asbestiform, environmental sources of asbestos and other fibrous minerals, and exposure and risk assessment approaches across different fiber types and sizes.
Current research and case studies will be used to illustrate how fiber type, morphology, and mineral origin may influence exposure and health outcomes. Practical examples will also show how quantitative exposure assessment and risk modeling can support decision-making when multiple fibrous minerals may be present.
The webinar is scheduled for September 15, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), the time zone listed by ALGA.
For U.S. Mountain Time, the webinar will take place on September 14, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. MDT.
More information on the presentation and registration is available through ALGA.
