Careers at C&IH

Current Opportunities

C&IH periodically adds positions to support our technical and scientific work. Current opportunities are listed below.

Industrial Ventilation and Exposure Modeling Engineer

Title: Industrial Ventilation and Exposure Modeling Engineer

Location: Denver, Colorado

About Us

Established in 1987, Chemistry & Industrial Hygiene, Inc. (C&IH) is a scientific consulting firm based in Denver, Colorado, serving clients nationwide. We specialize in human health risk assessment, toxicology, exposure modeling, and engineering controls across a wide range of industrial, manufacturing, commercial, and technology sectors. Our multidisciplinary team brings together expertise in industrial hygiene, exposure assessment, toxicology, and engineering to address both common and complex occupational health challenges.

Position Overview

C&IH is seeking a mechanical engineer or similar related discipline with practical experience in ventilation systems and a strong interest in applying engineering principles, including modeling, to worker health and occupational exposure control.

The position involves evaluating and troubleshooting contaminant-control ventilation systems, including local exhaust ventilation, identifying system deficiencies, and developing practical engineering-control solutions. The role includes field work in industrial and manufacturing environments and requires an engineer who is comfortable evaluating existing systems, working directly with clients, and developing recommendations that can be implemented in real-world operating environments.

Engineering modeling is incorporated into many C&IH projects. This position requires a strong interest in learning and applying computer airflow and contaminant dispersion modeling tools to support engineering-control evaluation, occupational exposure and design decisions.

Industrial hygiene is an additional component of the position. In addition to engineering-control work, the engineer may periodically support field exposure-monitoring activities and work closely with C&IH’s industrial hygienists, toxicologists, and other technical staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a similar related discipline.
  • Familiarity with, or strong interest in, mechanical ventilation principles and systems, preferably in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with, or strong interest in learning and applying, modeling to inform engineering-control evaluation and design decisions.
  • Familiarity with, or strong interest in, occupational health, industrial hygiene, and environmental, health, and safety (EH&S).
  • Ability to manage technical project responsibilities, organize field activities, and communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
  • Strong technical writing skills to support preparation of proposals, technical reports, recommendations, and presentations.
  • Willingness and ability to work in the field approximately 50% of the time, primarily at industrial and manufacturing facilities, with occasional out-of-state travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics modeling packages (Ansys Fluent, Star CCM+) and associated CAD software.
  • Familiarity with mechanical or ventilation systems, airflow characteristics, and thermodynamics.
  • Experience with local exhaust ventilation, containment systems, air filtration or purification systems, and other contaminant-control ventilation applications.
  • Experience performing field measurements and system-performance assessments for ventilation or engineering-control systems.
  • Experience developing engineering-control concepts, including system layout, equipment selection and specification, and retrofit modifications to existing systems.
  • Experience supporting or overseeing installation, commissioning, performance testing, or verification of new or modified ventilation systems.
  • Experience with industrial processes or manufacturing environments where engineering controls are used to manage occupational exposures.
  • Prior consulting experience or experience working directly with clients.

Salary

$65,000–$95,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

Benefits

  • 401(k)
  • Health and dental insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off

Work Setting

Monday through Friday, approximately eight hours per day, with occasional additional hours based on project needs.

Hybrid remote, with regular office and field responsibilities.

Candidates must be able to commute to and work from within the greater Denver metropolitan area.
