The journal Archives of Toxicology published a letter to the editor discussing a recent paper released in “Scientific Reports” on the toxic effects of elongate mineral particles.  The letter to the editor, titled “Cleavage fragments and asbestos fibers: better characterization of minerals and improved cell models are needed to elucidate toxicity differences,” highlights the need for advanced methodological approaches in toxicological studies on elongate mineral particles.  The letter outlines best practices and approaches for a determination of toxicity difference between cleavage fragments and asbestos fibers.  Authored by Dr. Ann Wylie and Dr. Andrey Korchevskiy of C&IH and Dr. Brooke Mossman of the University of Vermont, the letter is available online through the Archives of Toxicology.
