Our team of scientists specialize in hazard identification, exposure assessment, dose-response assessment, risk characterization, and risk management.
The underlying mission of C&IH is to study human exposures to chemical, physical, and biological agents, advance state-of-the-art scientific methodology for understanding health risks associated with these exposures, and help organizations properly manage their risk to protect the health of the workforce and the community. Working in accord with this mission, C&IH performs human health risk assessments that combine and coordinate the expertise of our scientists in hazard identification, exposure assessment, dose-response assessment, risk characterization, and risk management.
C&IH practices state-of-the-art industrial hygiene and scientific methodologies that are based on the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) risk assessment paradigm as adopted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) for assessing and managing risks. Examples of our human health risk assessment activities include:
C&IH practices state-of-the-art scientific methodologies
to evaluate the nature and extent of an exposure, including:
The specific methodology applied for an exposure assessment is determined based on your
organization’s objectives, the nature of the exposure, and other project variables that C&IH
helps our clients navigate. When practical, a combination of methodologies can be applied for
greater certainty.
Our board-certified toxicologists research dose-response relationships for inhalation, ingestion, and dermal exposure pathways for a wide range of common and uncommon particles in support of risk assessments for past, present, and future exposures.
Communicating the magnitude of this risk to your organization’s key decision makers and presenting an analysis of different risk-reduction strategies is a fundamental deliverable for C&IH’s industrial hygiene services.
Factors to consider include the costs and benefits of alternative strategies, including their overall effectiveness of improving employee health and the work environment; feasibility of implementing a strategy, potentially related to limitations with technology infrastructure or corporate culture; effective processes for
communication with employees; and post-implementation evaluation to measure the
effectiveness of the selected risk management strategy.
